Now, if you have a copy of Donald Tyson's Enochian Magic for Beginners mentioned in the last blog entry you will understand the process. Tyson, the author, had done considerable work showing the Enochian alphabet on page 94. My book is a First Edition, Second Printing, 2002. I don't want to violate Llewellyn's permission policy, so I will use an example to show the coded system underneath and what I have found. There are 21 letters in the Enochian alphabet as shown by Tyson. I created a 22 letter called Zeta. It's meaning stands for a letter "i" or letter "j". (If you have this book the 3rd and 9th letters already have Enochian letters that stand for an "i" or "j". For this example, I demonstrate the system if this was the 22 letter)
Dee's code takes your regular text and converts it into one of the letters in the cipher text. So, for example, if you text contains "i" or "j" you'd convert it to one of the letters in the word "Zeta". So, it becomes a "z", "e", "t" or an "a". This sounds tedious and cumbersome to convert text to code; it doesn't look practical in anyway.
I have a theory that Dee hid Latin underneath some of these Enochian letters. Now, look at the table at the bottom of the picture above. It resembles, somewhat, page 201 with angel names. My picture shows a fraction of the South quarter (not violating copyright) with different letters that are in the book. On that page, you will see the south quarter shows 4 columns, with 16 word combinations, each word containing 4 letters. At the bottom of these columns are names of God, each are 5 letters long. The picture above shows, with my example, just 1 column. Notice the rotation of my 4 letter words in the column. First letter A is first, then it rotates to the 4th position, then 3rd and then 2nd as you read down the list of 4 letter words. Even though my letters aren't the same as the author's words on page 201, my letters are doing the same thing as his to show you what is going on. Notice in my example, the God Name is: EABCD. Page 201 in the book has the same thing going on: the first letter is different than the letters in the rotating words above it.
Are you still following me?
The first code going on this table shown on page 201. It involves rotation. Dee had placed 3 Goetic demon names: Gaap, Seere and Bathin in the 4 God names. He split the wording into the 4 words. Two letters with "A" and two letters with "E" was the clue that gave it away for me.
I went to look at page 201 and saw 2 of the God names started with the letter "A" and 2 of the God Names started with the letter "E"! The 4 letters that are rotating are contained in the God name. They are to be converted using the Enochian letters on page 94. So, in my example, the last 4 letters are to be converted, but the first letter is to be left as the plain text letter. The rotation of the 4 letter words tips off the codebreaker as to what code is being used.
So, summarizing, the words Gaap, Seere, and Bathin, demons that have to do with moving people or objects around are hidden in the 4 God names in the book on page 201! It is quite cumbersome to work this cipher, as Dee would have noticed over 5 centuries ago, but he probably hid his secrets pretty well.
Without violating Llewellyn Publications permission policy, I have been able to show you what is going on or going on underneath those letters.
Page 201 is 1/3 of the whole system. If you see the table of good angels on page 206 and the table of evil angels on page 211 you are looking at the 2 other cipher systems I'm presently trying to crack with the help of my publisher. I will show you which letters clearly show the other demons present in the God names.
My further suspicion is that pages of the keys contained on pages 227 through 244 contain secret Latin words that Dee hid. You will need the alphabet on page 94 to solve those keys. I will work on that next.
This is most incredible! More ghoulish secrets of Dee's number system is coming next time!
